The Wildcat Tap in Birmingham
It’s Thursday evening, not a particularly ‘busy’ day of the week bar-wise, so I decide to head over to a decent bar with great beer, a place that I have come accustomed to over the past 12 months. It’s not your typical boozer, in fact , it’s very much less is more. Wooden decking down the sides making make-shift pews and vintage beer mats, antique brewing related memorabilia and tilted casks, this is as basic as it gets why… because the main focus is on the beer!

This is The Wildcat Tap, a venue that has become one of the main pillars within the craft beer community of Birmingham run by local Liam Scallon.[/su_column][/su_row]Back in 2015 Liam was just your average office worker, on a desk, clock watching waiting for the 1700, “bored of the day job”. An avid beer lover, he had developed a taste for the plenty of great brews from far and wide and quickly discovered that he was struggling to get the brews that he liked in Birmingham. So what do you do when you can’t get the beers that you want?.. You set up your own bar of course![su_row][su_column size="1/2][/su_column] [su_column size="1/2"]The Wildcat Tap launched in April 2016 and now has 3-4 casks, 2 kegs and 1-3 ciders on at a time, getting through 9-11 beers per week! Liam’s now got a well established bar, “So far, so good. We’ve hit capacity, so it’s deciding where to go from here but we’re going to be here a lot longer yet!”.[/su_column][/su_row]It’s in a really great part of town for craft beer with Birmingham Brewing Co, Stirchley Wines and Cotteridge Wines just a stone's throw away. Liam’s now living the dream, but every dream always has it’ challenges… “It’s the relentlessness of it all!.. It’s exciting but I can never relax!”[su_row][su_column size="1/2][/su_column] [su_column size="1/2"]The Wildcat Tap will be taking part in Birmingham Beer Week 2017, which is running from 21st to 30th July 2017! Bringing together a fine mix of the city’s finest breweries, pubs, bars, bottle shops and restaurants to create some amazing craft beer and real ale orientated events[/su_column][/su_row]Wildcat seems to bring in a large crowd who can relax and socialise with no distractions. As I looked around, every so often I heard the phrase “cheers Liam”, it seems like Liam has become a bit of a legend, almost a local hero for those who live and work in the area. So make sure that you make it down sometime to check it out!
