Nøgne Ø... Brews in a Nutshell
We've had quite a few deliveries come to our door over the last few weeks but this one had us more than intrigued. It was from the nøgne Ø brewery, a independent brewery in Grimstad, Norway and as always, in true BeerYeti style, we are going to give you the the low down on all eleven brews!IPAThis brew is definitely unique, really sweet and hoppy with mango/passionfruit aromas. Counteracted by a bitter-sweet smokey finish to make it quite a pleasant IPA.SaisonInteresting brew with a cloudy/ musty amber color. Crisp, hoppy aroma. Slightly carbonated with a sweet fruity citrus flavor with a smokey bitter finish... intriguing!Vic SecretThis one's called 'Vic secret' and we really want to keep this one a secret! Really hoppy and brewed with pine and fruit. It has a sweet fresh fruity aroma, accompanied by a rustic, bitter pine taste and a sweet, fruity ending. Works together perfectly, good IPA!BitterNot a typical bitter, almost a golden ale. Light, hoppy, almost golden biscuit aroma. With a bitter, fruity flavor... two thumbs up!Global pale aleGPA is more towards a west coast pale ale. Really hoppy, this beer uses a total of 13 hops from around the world. Almost sweet-savoury soya aroma that's kind of cool. With a light tropical fruit flavor and a slight bitter-musty ending which works perfectly. This one's definitely for broo quest!Brown AleNøgne Ø have got it right with their brown ale. It has a chocolate, coffee aroma with a nutty coffee-meets-chocolate flavor. Carbonated, spicy. Lots of character, lovely brew.Asian Pale AleTo be honest this one is the best so far! Light and refreshing, it even has lemon grass in it! This really comes across rather pleasantly in the nose, along with a hoppy scent. Not too overcomplicated with the flavors, just right with a slight spicy bitterness to the hops. Really crisp, really refreshing five points! How many beers have sediment at the end of the brew in this day and age, it's truly brilliant!Summer SommerBrewed with honey this is sweet but really refreshing. Carbonated, with a sweet honey aroma and a hoppy bitter flavor ended, by a beautiful essence of honey. Nice, chilled, refreshing.Special Holiday aleAlthough there's still six months until Christmas, this one is a really cracker! Brewed with berries and chestnuts, it's a malty brew, with a sweet aroma and thick texture. The tang of the berries works perfectly with the rustic, nutty aftertaste. Definitely worth a go for next Christmas!Naked RabbitIt's a funny thing, we've described Pale Ale's as having a distinctive "mango flavor", so what better way to compliment this than adding real mango! This brew has both Mango & Juniper added to create unique floral undertones and bursts of sweetness to compliment a slight bitterness. This is a beautifully crafted beer.Imperial Brown aleEnglish feel with English malts and a sweet treacle aroma, accompanied by a rich sweet bitter-fruitcake flavor beautiful! So overall, these are all a pretty good shout! Nøgne ø beers are unfiltered leaving a rustic rough feel that works well makes you really appreciate the craftsmanship gone into this ale and lets face it, how many beers have sediment at the end of the brew in this day and age, it's truly brilliant!
