The Rising Stars of Irish Craft Beer - With Jamie Power
Have you tried a craft beer from Ireland? If your answer is no... you haven’t lived yet! I feel blessed born to be a beer enthusiast living during the biggest boom the industry has seen in Éire and I want to share the love with any readers who are planning a visit to my Island.The range in Ireland has shot up in the last few years like never before and there’s something for everybody. Whether you prefer a dark beer like a stout, porter, doppel-bock or a hoppy beer such as IPA, amber ale or American pale ale, or perhaps something stronger like an imperial stout, barleywine or something barrel aged - writing this is making me thirsty!In August 2015, the Independent Craft Brewers of Ireland reported that there were 63 microbreweries operating in Ireland. Today I counted over 80 microbreweries listed on Ireland’s main beer forum, www.beoir.org, and that’s not including gypsy brewers, contract brewers and artisan cider makers!
Here’s a list of 5 Breweries that are rising stars of Irish craft beer (in no particular order);

1. Dot Brew
A relatively new Dublin brewery, who have been busy in their first year considering that they’ve brewed a Barrel Red, a Session Rye Ale, an Imperial Barrel Aged Stout, a Seasonal Sour Cherry & Apricot Ale and the latest release, an Amber Ale. The Sour Cherry & Apricot was mind blowing and The Session Rye, the toast of summer 2016.[/su_column][/su_row][su_row][su_column size="1/2"][/su_column] [su_column size="1/2"]
2. Northbound Brewery
Quickly gaining a reputation particularly for their exquisite takes on German beer styles - my personal favourite is their Altbier, 33 Sticke Alt.[/su_column][/su_row][su_row][su_column size="1/2"][/su_column] [su_column size="1/2"]
3. Rascals Brewing Co
Brewed by a craft beer loving couple in Dublin - cans of Rascals Big Hop Red are now a widespread choice beer in Ireland and their award winning Ginger Porter is a must try.[/su_column][/su_row][su_row][su_column size="1/2"][/su_column] [su_column size="1/2"]
4. Simon Lambert & Sons
A brewpub in County Wexford, created the YellowBelly Beer series for retail and it seems like they’re brewing a different style every couple of weeks! It’s been exciting to taste these boundary breaking beers such as the “Duality” Pale Stout (seriously, a pale stout!) and “Great for the Town” strawberry sour, to name two from many. If that doesn’t perk your interest enough they also have comic style labels with classic imagery such as Where’s Wally.[/su_column][/su_row][su_row][su_column size="1/2"][/su_column] [su_column size="1/2"]
5. Wicklow Wolf Brewing Co
What can I say about this brewery, they have their own hop farm, brilliant branding, incredible beers and definitely the people's choice in the town of Bray! The Sorachi Red is apparently seasonal, I hope it’ll stay in production. I also enjoy the Black Perle Porter among others.[/su_column][/su_row][su_row][su_column size="1/2"][/su_column] [su_column size="1/2"]There are many others worth adding to your beer checklist, like Jack Cody’s, Dungarvan, Galway Bay, Metal Man… I could go on. Start your adventure into Irish Craft Beer.
