The BIG Ale Trail at Solihull Food and Drink Festival 2018!
Solihull Food and Drink Festival 2018 kicks off on the 28th September for 3 days, promising plenty of fun and entertainment for foodie fans from far and wide. The festival that is now in its 8th year sees demos from award-winning celebrity chef Jean-Christophe Novelli, Britain’s Best Home Cook judge Chris Bavin and Great British Bake Off’s Val Stones. This is accompanied by over 100 continental food stalls, street food, bars and heaps of tasters too! But the main event for us has to be The BIG Ale Trail, which debuted last year and we LOVED IT! This year’s trail runs over the 3 days between 12pm and 8pm, and promises EVEN MORE stop-offs, with tickets still at the same fantastic price of £5. With this you get to sample a 1/3 of a pint from eight venues with a branded Ale Trail glass! But down at the Yeti Cave we simply couldn’t wait until the festival to do this, so we headed down for a “preview” of what the trail has in store…
The Beech House
This place is fantastic, with it’s modern brick and wood panelling, comfy seating and dining area… The food smelt EPIC! They have three rotating cask lines, and have plenty of events out back, hosted in their HUGE TIPI!For more info, check out their Website, Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.
Esabella’s
Esabella's is a “social eating house” and man it looks chic! It's cutting edge design, nouveaux cuisine and a few kegged craft brews on the go, this is definitely the slickest place in town to get a pint! For more info, check out their Website, Facebook & Instagram.
Flute & Flagon
Despite being a chain pub (Greene King), this dig has plenty of local ambience, with nostalgic Jaguar and Land Rover posters on the wall from the early 20th century. They have four rotating cask ales on the go, one keg and a few crafty bottles too!For more info, check out their Website & Facebook.
The Masons Arms
Having recently been done up, this 19th-century pub has managed to intertwine its traditional roots with a modern twist… and a fantastic vintage bike on the wall too! They have a nice mix of cask ales and craft available by the bottle. For more info, check out their Website.
Revolution
Started in the mid 90’s, these guys have set up bars all over the country and this place is amazing, with a clean cut, Art Deco style. They have just launched their new menu, so things were pretty mental when we popped in but as you can imagine the place was immaculate! Now serving a few crafty brews on tap from Goose Island. For more info, check out their Website, Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.
Royal British Legion
We were surprised to have never heard of this place before, it’s tucked away on a back road by the hospital. Although it’s pretty a basic place, it’s pretty chilled, with a few ales on tap and a tranquil bowling green. Perfect for kicking back and enjoying a brew. For more info, check out their Website, Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.
Tap & Tandoor
One of the newest additions to the Solihull food and beer scene, this place pairs a fantastic line-up of craft beers from both home and afar with amazing Indian food! We are pretty familiar with this place and have already eaten and drank there twice before… Trust us, IT’S GOOD! ;)For more info, check out their Website, Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.
The White Swan
This is a contemporary Wetherspoons, what can we say, cheap and cheerful. There’s always a place for the £6 burger and pint deal! For more info, check out their Website.
