Timmermans - Oude Gueuze 5.5% abv

[su_row][su_column size="1/2]A picture of petrus old bruin, aged pale, aged red and timmermans oude gueze for the Beer Yeti top Belgian Sour Beer Review[/su_column] [su_column size="1/2"]Won the world’s best Sour at the World Beer Awards 2015. Matured in wooden barrels and refermented in the bottle.Appearance: Lots of fizz and a big head that reduces quickly. Cloudy light amber/ almost golden.Aroma: Fresh cut grass, slight hint of pine, slight warming underlay of apple.Flavour: Very tart, with hints of zesty lemon, followed by a fruity finish and a slight bitter bite.[/su_column][/su_row]Very refreshing, tingles on your tongue and invites you to take another sip.Available to purchase here! For more info, check out Timmermans Website & Facebook.

Next up we have a ‘set’ of brews that bring together an interesting concept. They are all from Petrus, aged for two years in oak foeders and can be enjoyed both individually or blended together. We have to admit that with this technique we were a little bit pessimistic, however this is becoming ‘the thing’ to do with Belgian Sours so we thought that we’d give it a punt…

Petrus - Aged Red 8.5% abv

[su_row][su_column size="1/2]A picture of petrus old bruin, aged pale, aged red and timmermans oude gueze for the Beer Yeti top Belgian Sour Beer Review[/su_column] [su_column size="1/2"]Appearance: Deep, dark brew with a fascinating red glow and a minimal head that reminisces slightly on the surface.Aroma: A beautiful mix of marzipan and cherry…. almost like a bakewell tart. Very potent and the booziness in the aroma really circulates.Flavour: The sweet cherry is followed through into the flavour and met with a warming boozy-bitter finish.[/su_column][/su_row]Overall a very well balanced bitter-sweet beer. Intriguing, yet refreshing at the same time.Mixed with the Oud Bruin: The cherry still comes through in the aroma, however the Oud Bruin takes the intensity of the sweetness and mellows it down to let you appreciate the Aged Red’s bitter sour edge slightly more.Available to purchase here!

Petrus - Aged Pale 7.3% abv

[su_row][su_column size="1/2]A picture of petrus old bruin, aged pale, aged red and timmermans oude gueze for the Beer Yeti top Belgian Sour Beer Review[/su_column] [su_column size="1/2"]Appearance: Very light, golden straw in colour and quite spritzy/ carbonated with a slight head that laces.Aroma: Hints of citrusy lemon grass, with a slight leather/ cider vinegar underlay (in a nice way).Flavour: Very bitter, with hints of lemon and a slight mellowing sweetness.Really unique and bizarrely, this brew has the look and feel of a strong farmhouse cider.[/su_column][/su_row]Mixed with the Aged Red: The Aged Pale de-intensifies the cherry flavour of the Aged Red but at the same time the Aged Red dampens the bitter cider vinegar-style edge of the Aged Pale, making it a pleasantly bitter-sweet combo! :)Available to purchase here!

Petrus - Oud Bruin 5.5% abv

[su_row][su_column size="1/2]A picture of petrus old bruin, aged pale, aged red and timmermans oude gueze for the Beer Yeti top Belgian Sour Beer Review[/su_column] [su_column size="1/2"]Appearance: A deep reddish/ brown autumnal colour, with a thick brown head that stays with you and a fair bit of lacing left behind on the side of the glass.Aroma: Slightly sour, with a very mellow dash of fruit and a hint of oak.Flavour: Very sweet with a burst of fruit, ending with a slightly sour, boozy finish.Very easy, has the feel of a fine barley wine.[/su_column][/su_row]Mixed with the Aged Pale: Once again the cider vinegar feel of the Aged Pale is still present but a lot more mellow and this combo wasn’t too dissimilar to the Oud Bruin on its own, just slightly more acidic and bitter.Available to purchase here!

And should we try all three combined?.. WHY NOT!!!

A picture of petrus old bruin, aged pale, aged red and timmermans oude gueze for the Beer Yeti top Belgian Sour Beer ReviewThis combo highlighted the marzipan cherry bakewell  feel of the Aged Red, but not in an overpowering way as it did on its own. This actually creates a really good mix flavour-wise… perhaps even a posh version of Snakebite black!? We found ourselves craving for another sip!For more info, check out their Website, Facebook and Twitter.

So there you have it, our top Sours for the Spring, so why not give all of these a go and enjoy the slightly warmer weather too! This feature is a paid for promotion.
