Moseley Craft Beer Festival Review!
This was only the third year of Moseley’s craft beer festival hosted by The Dark Horse but it already seems to have become an essential event in Birmingham’s beer scene. Taking place on the August Bank Holiday weekend, the weather couldn’t have been any better for us. Included in the ticket was a free pint of Glasshouse’s Waterside Pale on entry; this is a beautiful, thirst-quenching pale ale, perfect for the summer.
Making our way upstairs we were greeted by Tiny Rebel’s takeover of the mezzanine, including a Nintendo 64 with GoldenEye and Mario Kart hooked up to a projector, merchandise for purchase, and of course a range of Tiny Rebel’s brilliant beers on offer. A few games of Mario Kart later and we were back to the European Bar where the beer list was simply amazing. Saison’s from Fantome, Sours from Omnipollo, Lambic’s from Mikkeller, Imperial Porter from Pohjala, and a range of beers from Hoppin Rabbit were all on offer, amongst others.
Despite the weather outside I had to get myself Pohjala’s Hamarik, a 12% imperial porter born from a collaboration with Other Half Brewing. I’ve been a fan of Pohjala for some time but have never seen their beers on tap in the UK so jumped at the chance to grab one. Andy from The Dark Horse told me that we can expect more of their beers in UK bars in future as they’ve just signed up with a new shipping partner, they’re definitely worth looking out for in the future.
Moving back downstairs to enjoy the weather, we stopped off at the Restaurant Bar where there were even more unbelievable offerings from Northern Monk, The Kernel, and Siren to name but a few. I went for Siren’s Castilian Lemon Cheesecake sour IPA, again, perfect for a summer’s day sat outside in the beer garden.
As we were there on the Sunday there was more of a relaxed vibe, with people just enjoying what was on offer without going overboard. The festival was a success again and I can’t wait to see how next year’s festival will shape up, maybe this time we will see the festival expand into other bars as it continues to make a name for itself? Either way, it will be worth the trip down to Moseley next August Bank Holiday for what will be another brilliant year.
