Meet the Brewer with The Plough and Purity Review

Beer and food pairing is getting to be such a big thing in this day and age. The brewery boom and growth of small independent foodie places has created a great platform for creating some really appetising events. So when were invited to come and visit ‘Meet the Brewer with The Plough and Purity’, it was something that we just couldn't miss! We’ve become really familiar with Purity over the past few years, a brewery that is becoming iconic in the UK craft beer scene and award winning too! One thing that I really like about them is that they brew great tasting beer, while maintaining high standards of brewing in a way that is conscious of sustainability and the environment. We knew that this combined with the Plough, which is renowned for it's great food was the perfect match! We walked upstairs into the newly refurbished ‘Next Door’ at The Plough (really cool), to enter our tasting room for the night. The set up was nice, a long table, crystal glasses, hop filled Purity glasses, candles and funky pictures... (A bit Addams Family style)![su_row][su_column size="1/2"]Picture from meet the brewer with The Plough and Purity : 4 course dinner with beer matches[/su_column] [su_column size="1/2"]Paul Hannon (Sales Manager of Purity) and Rob Hill (National Account Manager of Purity), were leading the tasting and we seriously couldn’t wait! Paul kicked off with a bit of history to the brewery, which was founded back in 2005 and is based on a farm. He didn't go into too much detail though because he knew what we were really here for![/su_column][/su_row]So here was the lineup for the night and what we thought;[su_row][su_column size="1/2"]20160914_195130-1[/su_column] [su_column size="1/2"]poached then fried pierogi w/ spiced cabbage + wild mushroomWith Purity Pure GoldWe loved this combo! It mellowed the bitterness of the hops in the beer and brought out the richness of the pierogi/ fried cabbage.[/su_column][/su_row][su_row][su_column size="1/2"]Picture from meet the brewer with The Plough and Purity : 4 course dinner with beer matches[/su_column] [su_column size="1/2"]fillet of cod w/ clam chowder + baconWith Purity LawlessGreat match! The saltiness of the bacon really brought out the hoppiness in this brew and really cut through pale to make the dish tastier (which made this match really a no brainier)![/su_column][/su_row][su_row][su_column size="1/2"]Picture from meet the brewer with The Plough and Purity : 4 course dinner with beer matches[/su_column] [su_column size="1/2"]pork shoulder + puff pastry roll w/ puy lentils + heritage carrotsWith Purity Mad GooseWe liked this. The Mad Goose really took the edge off the richness of the pork shoulder.[/su_column][/su_row][su_row][su_column size="1/2"]photo-14-09-2016-21-41-03[/su_column] [su_column size="1/2"]chocolate + marmalade bread and butter puddingWith Purity Saddle backReally couldn’t go wrong... Dark Beer + Chocolate = Heaven! The brew was apparently, inspired on a bike ride where the founders of purity discovered a new brewery, (sounds like our cup of tea!) The Saddle Black had a slight saltiness to it, which complimented the chocolate to give this combo a salted caramel feel.[/su_column][/su_row]The thing that we liked about this event was that the focus wasn’t just on how the beer went with the food, but also on the brewing process and ingredients too. We even rubbed some El Dorado Hops in our hands to give us that beautiful scent that reminded me of our travels to the US. Paul also said that the brewery has been inspired by the states, hence using this kind of hops and making the move from cask to keg. Another great point is that Purity also focus on getting top brewers on board and the beer, as opposed to marketing which is also a pretty cool way to go![su_row][su_column size="1/2"]Picture from meet the brewer with The Plough and Purity : 4 course dinner with beer matches[/su_column] [su_column size="1/2"]Picture from meet the brewer with The Plough and Purity : 4 course dinner with beer matches[/su_column][/su_row]There was a nice crowd there, quite varied with even a training athlete! I think one of the great things about attending these events is asking everyone about how they got into beer. One couple said that they were into wine and wine tasting, which then progressed onto craft beer. Another member of the group said that he travels to see friends in New York and has seen craft beer growing in America, which prompted him to gradually get into it, (similar to BeerYeti's inspiration)! All in all, this was an absolutely EPIC event. We’ve heard that there are plans for similar events at The Plough, so keep 'em coming guys!
