Another great pub: The Thornbury Castle, Marylebone, London

Being a London lad living in Brum, I've become accustomed to flittering between the two cities a fair bit. In fact, up to lockdown I was in London every other week! This is why I discovered this hidden gem about five minutes walk from Marylebone station. I'm not going to lie, the first time I hit this pub up, it was a complete fluke... I had time to kill but ever since, I've always made sure that I've had time to kill! It's the Thornbury Castle and is tucked away on a side street off Marylebone road. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing unique about the blue exterior, nor the wooded inside, albeit it has an interesting model wooden ship, some old-school adverts and rugby memorabilia.  None of this matters however as every time I walk into this pub something just hits me! It's an atmosphere that I've never experienced in any other London pub. The staff… well, they're bloody amazing! I believe that it's a family run pub and one thing's for sure, you're always welcomed warmly and made to feel at home. It's a proper cask pub, with about six handpulls on the go that are clearly well kept. Most times I've visited there's been something from The Marlow Brewery on the go, who I've always seemed to have a bit of a soft spot for. Last time I had Tring Side Pocket - another brewery I love. I haven't managed to try the Thai food there yet, as I've never had time but it looks and smells great. To be honest, since the pandemic I've really missed visiting this place, so it will definitely be on my hit list when I return to the big smoke! *One thing to note is that this is a Monday to Friday pub, opening-wise.
