Another great pub: The Firefly, Worcester
Next pub in our Great Pubs series is the Firefly in Worcester. We’d heard so many awesome things about this place we just had to check it out. The route down was fantastic – we hit up the gravel bikes and headed down the Worcester and Birmingham Canal. The route was beautiful, through scenic countryside, which was the perfect appetiser for some awesome beer! View our route on Komoot HERE. Based in the centre of Worcester, this funky pub has a great feel, along with some solid brews! The exterior is a tall Georgian property, apparently the old vinegar manager’s residence. The inside consists of a shabby chic interior, with leather panelled seating, a stag’s head on the wall, gaming machines and a mix of neon signs and ambient lighting .! The wood-panelled bar had tankards lined up above with a mirror and a welcoming sign. They had 12 taps on keg with a fantastic range of craft beer and six cask lines, including a cider. Down some steps was even more seating, it’s cosy with almost a feel of a speakeasy in the USA, back in the prohibition era of the 1920s.
Outside has a fantastic, well thought out garden with benches, partially undercover with a see-through roof, so rain or shine you’re sorted. 🙂 The railings around the garden area are also smartly covered with wicker to give a bit of privacy from the outside world. This combined with the nice lighting from above the canopy must give an awesome feel in the evening, especially when they’ve got a band playing which they do regularly. On a warm, sunny August day this was definitely where we were going to sit and enjoy the afternoon!
Sitting down we enjoyed Marble Brewery’s “Manchester Bitter” on cask and Nothing Bound Brewing Co’s “Grow Into Love” IPA on keg, both fantastic brews!
So the brews were epic but the food?… WOW, it’s bloody awesome! The FireFly is 100% vegan, but meat eater or not you’ve SERIOUSLY gotta try their menu!!! We went for the Facon Cheese Burger – A Burger patty, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, American mustard in a challah bun and the Bhaji Burger – Onion bhaji burger, mint yoghurt, mango chutney, cucumber and onion salad both were outstanding!
Both palettes and bellies satisfied, we headed home. This one we’ll come back to for sure to try more of their amazing menu and of course plenty more of their fantastic beers!
